Bacone has a rich history that grows with each day. Thousands of Native Americans or Indians as Oklahoma describes, attended and completed a classical education. Bacone welcomes and after you review many of the images here, you will conclude welcomed Indians from any tribe. Students arrived to learn a new way of life, not a way to destroy the old life, but, to improve current conditions. Assisting Indians in advancing their education, at a time when society did not know Indians still existed, Bacone College developed leaders that changed the way a nation viewed Indians. Take a trip through time and learn how Indians rediscovered their significance by attending a small, private college located at the end of the Trail of Tears.
Today, Bacone has a uniquely diverse student population compromised of Indians, African-Americans, Latino, Asian and Caucasion students. Ask any student on campus about this diverse mix and you will hear, it is cool - we get to learn about each other's cultures and views on life and apply the differences to our understanding.
Each collection offers a generational perspective on life at an Indian College - as you view the collections, it will be apparent that life at an Indian College looks like life at any other college. Students being students and faculty being faculty - join us on this journey.
